The Port of Helsingborg has ordered two electric reach stackers from Kalmar, expanding the use of battery-powered equipment in its container-handling operations. The move was reported by Electrek.
Reach stackers are used to lift, move and position heavy container loads inside terminals. Their work takes place in tight spaces where operators must handle large weights accurately while working around other machinery, freight and personnel.
Helsingborg’s order reflects a broader push by port operators to replace conventional terminal machinery with electric alternatives. Heavy equipment is a central part of port operations, making it a significant area for electrification beyond passenger cars and road freight vehicles.
For Lithuania’s transport sector, the development underlines how electric mobility is reaching every part of the logistics chain. Ports, intermodal terminals and freight yards face different operating demands from public roads, but they are increasingly part of the same transition towards electrically powered transport equipment.
